In 2007, I traveled to the island of Cumbrae outside of Glasgow, Scotland to study the Amherst Writers and Artists Method with the poet/writer, Patricia Lee Lewis. Since then, I have used this method in all the workshops and retreats that I lead. I believe it designates the gold standard upon which all workshops thrive. To hone craft, explore and discover material in a supportive environment—all of this—makes how and what I teach deeply satisfying. I have had the opportunity to welcome writers throughout the USA and Canada, Germany, England, Greece, Portugal and the continent of Australia. Retreats take place in the USA, Greece, and France. (Visit www.womenreadingaloud.org) Each writer receives a warm embrace into the “kula,” –our writing community—where our door is always open.
WEDNESDAY MORNING WRITERS
These writers have been coming to my home for years to write. Writers write, read aloud, and critique in response to what’s working, following the Amherst Writers and Artists Method.
“TEA AND CONVERSATION”
This special literary series has a unique format. I have had the pleasure of interviewing such literary luminaries as Christina Baker Kline, NYTimes #1 bestseller novelist, Jayne Ann Phillips, nominee for the National Book Award, Dorianne Laux, award-winning poet, Caroline Leavitt, NYTimes best-selling author, Idra Novey, poet/novelist, 2016 winner of the Sami Ruhr Book Award, Cate Marvin, 2016 Guggenheim Fellow for Poetry, Ann Hood, NYTimes best-selling novelist, and many more. Held in the Bernardsville Public Library in Bernardsville, NJ, this series brings writers into the community for an afternoon of conversation, Q&A, and a booksigning.
